March 2023: UT Austin and SAISD Launch Pipeline and Customize Curriculum
Together, UT and SAISD selected the first ECPI cohort and developed an 8-week equity case study and action plan for an SAISD high school.
Cohort activities:
- Implemented SAISD’s Leadership Learning Walks protocol and engaged in classroom visits
- Conducted an equity and community audit at designated campuses and developed an improvement plan
- Met with Assistant Superintendent to reflect on growth
Looking ahead:
- Will present year-long research project to Deputy and Assistant Superintendents
- Will receive coaching post-graduation to support equity-centered leader pipeline
March 2023: UTSA and SAISD Autoethnography Project
SAISD central office leaders learned about the power of identity and how it applies to developing an ongoing, equity-centered district ecosystem.
Overview
Autoethnography tells a story from an inside perspective. One’s experiences, challenges, and triumphs are given voice so that others in similar situations may gain better insight concerning their experiences, and witness other ways of knowing.

Purpose
In order to develop an equity-focused ‘ecosystem’, we must ensure that central office staff who create and maintain systems across the district have a deep understanding of equity.
UTSA engages aspiring urban school leaders in this work through the Urban School Leaders Academy (USLA). The program facilitates a process focused on preparing educators to become transformational leaders committed to social justice who can work effectively in diverse, ambiguous urban contexts and now they will facilitate the same learning experience with sitting district leaders.

Committee of diverse SAISD students, alumni, district leaders, and partners work together to break down barriers that lead to uneven education for students.
